Doug began playing piano at age 4, originally taught by his mother, Nancy. He studied privately for more than 20 years, including several years with Jerry Murphy and Joe Gilman. As a student, Doug played trumpet and baritone horn, as well as actively singing in his father’s church choir.
For 2 consecutive years, Doug was awarded Outstanding Male Musician at UOP’s Music Camp, while focusing on Jazz Choir. He was selected as one of 12 voices to perform with California’s All-State Jazz Choir in 1987.
He helped develop and lead the Jazz Group SUAVE with San Francisco’s own Braxton Brothers, during the late 1980’s. Doug founded, directed, wrote and produced Sacramento-based LOCAL HEROES from 1993-1998. He also won a SAMMIE Award in 1997’s Latin category as a member of Salsa Monumental. Currently, he can be found performing all styles of music throughout the Northern California area.
